On his hands and feet. I.e., with all his might and running.⁵ Rashi explains עַל יָדָיו וֽעַל רַגְלָיו as an idiomatic expression; but Radak explains it literally, that they had to use their hands and feet to climb because it was a very steep and slippery crag.
